Summer Solstice Rituals for Exalting the Sun
The Summer Solstice is actually one of my favourite days of the year.
When I met my husband 8 years ago, we had just started dating in early June. It was a beautiful June, I remember because on the summer solstice, though I was just new to my witchy ways I asked him to dance naked with me under the moon light of the summer solstice. And him being new to anything that seemingly weird and yet completely open to my wild ways gracefully agreed. And so we danced naked in his backyard by the pond rushing and the wind in the trees under the light of the moon living completely in our honey moon phase, laughing, and yet entirely afraid his roommate would look out the window and see us.
I'll never forget those memories or how I felt that day.
Things are different now.
The world is different.
I am different and yet I am still that girl who moved under the moonlight naked.
I am different and yet this remains one of my favourite days and one of the most important days of the year for me to come into ritual.
The summer solstice is a reminder to come back to living in your natural cycles, and a reminder that you are the earth. You are nature.
I knew I needed to do a whole podcast on how you can bring more of this energy into your life.
In this weeks episode, join me, as I discuss the demonization of the sun, the magick of it's light, and how you can create your own summer solstice ritual very simply and easily to connect to the life giving energy of the Sun, the sacred gold.
So, what is does the word Solstice actually mean?
The summer solstice brings us to the point in the year where the day is the longest and it seems for a moment cosmically that the sun stands still, in fact, Solstice means "sun standing still". The sun seems to pause a moment in the sky as we are called to celebrate this life giving force.
The sun has been vilified by "normal" culture and the media as this demonic force that causes only harm to the earth and our bodies. Where did we get so lost? For thousands of years the sun was praised as a God and in fact people shrank in fear when the sun begin to shift from the sky when we moved into the "dark phase" of the year because this meant no crops would grow, food would be scarce, and life would ultimately get harder and colder. The sun is life force. Light is life force.
Without the sun, we don’t exist.
Some practices for the summer solstice you’ll discover in this episode:
